Groundbreaking for new medical facilities at the Keystone Rural Health Consortia (KRHC) location in Emporium was held Thursday.

Hallstrom Construction, of DuBois, will serve as general contractor on the $650,000 project, which is being funded through a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) loan. KTH Architecture of DuBois provided architectural services.

KRHC Fiscal Manager Danielle Reed stated that the facility was at maximum capacity, with physicians and staff sharing offices and limited space for expansion of services.

“There has been a lot of patience and diligence working on this,” said Reed. “This is a two-year work-in-progress.”

Construction will add approximately 1,000 square feet to house three additional offices and a conference room. The conference room will allow for the inclusion of group behavioral health services and telemedicine services, which allow local patients to be seen by specialists from around the world via video chat.
