2016 Pennsylvania Bear Harvest Ranks Fifth All-Time

Hunters in Northcentral Pennsylvania counties continue to be the most successful at harvesting bears during hunting seasons.

A total of 1,287 bears were taken this season from the northcentral region, comprised of the counties of Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Lycoming, McKean, Potter, Tioga and Union. Last year, 1,436 bears were taken in the region. Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) officials attribute slightly-lower numbers in some areas to poor weather conditions at the beginning of bear season.

While a number of the northcentral counties had lower numbers, Potter County saw a one-third increase in the number of bears harvested, from 97 last year to 149 this year.
