‘A Tale of Twin Gables’

 

During the Great Depression, my grandparents, Leo and Neva Burlingame asked my great uncle, Gross Burlingame, a master carpenter, to build them a restaurant and gas station next to their house in Howard Siding.  He agreed and the “Twin Gables” was an immediate success according to my uncle, Laverne Burlingame in his book “Around the World in Eighty Five Years.” He claimed that within a year several tourist cabins and wash house were added.
