Abandoned vehicles across the borough will be removed by municipal officials in the coming months, according to an announcement from the Emporium Borough Council this week.

For several months, council members have been working with Borough Manager Don Reed, the borough solicitor, Police Chief David Merritt and other officials in order to craft an ordinance that would allow the vehicles to be removed and resold by the borough if vehicle owners do not work to make them road legal.

“This is long overdue,” Reed stated. “It’s important for everyone to know why it took so long. We used to be able to just remove the vehicles, but things have changed so much over the years. We took our time to make sure we are doing this the right way.”
