‘All in the Name of Progress’

The first domino has fallen. By a two to one council vote, the Borough of Driftwood has passed an ordinance to move forward with plans to allow ATVs and possibly snowmobiles use of streets and roads within the Borough. Lumber, Shippen, and others are expected to now follow suit. All in the name of progress, commerce and prosperity for the area.
For more than 200 years Cameron County has invited “saviors” to our beautiful wilderness. Denude the mountains of old growth timber, drill for oil, strip for coal, clear-cut secondary trees, and frack for gas. How many of these “great ideas” actually had long term benefits to the area, creating lasting, local jobs and the intended sustainable benefits?
