Archery Adventures

by William Crisp

Today was the opening day of archery season and I celebrated it but didn’t see a deer. Of course, I didn’t leave the property either, nor did I hunt. I haven’t soured to the season at all; it is among my favorite times of the year. It is just that now I am wiser than I used to be. It was raining in buckets all day and usually the opening day foliage prevents me from seeing what I want to see and getting a clean shot. So, I split wood, did some football stuff, watched some games and then sat down to write to you.

There was a time when I would have been organizing my gear the afternoon of the eve of the season, then to bed early and up early and in a stand well before sunrise. It wouldn’t have mattered if it was raining fire; nothing would disturb me from my opening day ritual.
