Areas of Kinzua Dam Lake Closed To Public

Areas of the Kinzua Dam have been closed to the general public due to “ongoing law enforcement issues,” though officials have not yet released a more specific reason.
Last week, it was announced by the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE), which oversees operations at the dam, that the dam parking lot, pedestrian access area, visitor information center and its parking lot, and the downstream picnic area would all be closed until further notice.
Marking the areas as “off-limits” to the public caused wild speculation on social media, with blame placed on perceived structural insufficiencies or budget constraints.
However, the ACOE Pittsburgh District Kinzua Dam Facebook page indicates that the closures are not due to dam safety, structural issues, or funding issues.
