Mountain Lines COLTSFOOT

by Nelson Haas

Tussilago farfara

The coltsfoot is almost a month late this year as it pushes up through the leaf litter. The flower is still to open to its fullest in the higher elevations.

Coltsfoot is often confused with the common dandelion. The easiest way to identify coltsfoot is that the flower stem is covered in reddish bracts and the flower stalk of the dandelion is smooth.
