If you want to catch some little kids playing some pretty good basketball, check out the Cameron County boys’ and girls’ junior high basketball teams this season. I’ve been particularly impressed with the skill level on the girls’ squad and the court savvy of the boys’ team. Usually junior high basketball is mistake filled as the kids learn the game and is often dominated by one or two advanced players, but there seems to be more kids with potential this year.
And the new 6 p.m. start times make it easier to attend as opposed to the 4 p.m. starts of the previous years. I’m assuming the new start times were instituted to eliminate missed class time, but it is also a big help to parents trying to get home from work and see their kids play.
