From the Bleachers

With the nice weather this weekend I have spent my share of time outside, but the evenings have generally been spent in front of the television watching the US Open Golf Championship from Oakmont Country Club in Pittsburgh. The torrential rains during the opening round last Thursday put the schedule way behind, forcing the players to play until almost nine o’clock on Friday and Saturday nights. That may have frustrated the players, but it pushed the broadcast directly into my after dinner television time.

I took in the senior little league and senior little league softball games last Thursday, and I have to say, the softball game is much cleaner that the senior league baseball. The girls have some pretty skilled players and that improves play. But the problem with senior league baseball has always been the same in my opinion. The 13- and even some of the 14-year-old baseball players are simply too small physically for the standard size field.
