From the Bleachers

It was a disappointing ending last week to the Lady Red Raider softball season and to be certain, Coach Ralph McKimm’s squad played nervously in their loss. But it is only a step in the development of a good team.

Last year they snuck into the post season and were beaten by the eventual district champs in the first round, but this season they earned a third seed. Even though they lost convincingly, they’ve now had a taste of what is required to compete at a higher level. McKimm will have a challenge to replace his seniors, especially in the outfield, but there is still a strong nucleus of players that have the ability to take a step forward.

At least five times since the Stanley Cup playoffs have started I said to anyone who would listen, my Penguins just don’t have enough healthy players to win a second straight NHL championship. So far I have been wrong every time. Their latest conquest included a nail-biting double overtime win over a very tough Ottawa Senators and I refuse to say they won’t be able to win again. I predict a six game win over the Nashville Predators in front of all those country singers down in Music City.
