Geist Completes Bat House Project

Cameron Coumty High School Senior, Wyatt Geist constructed three bat houses as part of his senior project. His mentor for the project was Don Bickford of Cameron County Outdoor Youth Activities.

Toby Herzing, Forester for Pa. Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) initiated the project with CCOYA, who turned it over to Wyatt for his project.

The bat houses were built to replace active bat houses that were previously destroyed by vandalism on State Forest land.

“Bats are one of the most misunderstood of animals – routinely feared and loathed as sinister flying rats of the night,” said Bickford. “Fact is, they are pretty cool creatures that are very important to our environment.”
