Lady Raiders Shut Out Bucktail In Softball Opener

The Cameron County High School varsity softball team opened their 2017 season last Friday with a 9-0 win over the visiting Bucktail Bucks in the first game for both teams.

Laila Smith tossed a three hitter that included seven strikeouts, no walks and a hit batsman to collect the win for the Lady Red Raiders. Freshman Myka Poorman suffered the loss for Bucktail, allowing seven hits while striking out seven, walking one and hitting one batter.

The Bucks registered only three hits, all singles, by Emily Cross in the first inning, Amanda Tyrell in the third inning, and Emma Intallura in the sixth inning.
