County School District Receives Safety Grant

Cameron County is among four schools in the 25th Senatorial District selected to receive Pennsylvania school safety grants, according to Senator Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson).

Cameron County School District will receive $30,000.

Scarnati explained that this is the second year that the four schools will receive grants through the School Resource Officer/School Police Officer Competitive Grant program (SRO/SPO).

So, how exactly will this grant be spent?

In case you were not already aware, schools can use a variety of practices and procedures to promote the safety of students, faculty, and staff.

Certain practices, such as locking or monitoring doors and gates, are intended to limit or control access to school campuses, while others, such as the use of metal detectors and security cameras, are intended to monitor or restrict students’ and visitors’ behavior on campus.

One common safety requirement for schools that has grown in popularity is that all faculty and staff wear must wear badges or picture ID cards similar to those that you can find on the InstantCard website.

These ID cards can also be used to gain access to different areas of a school campus and this measure is often complementary to the enforcement of a strict dress code.

Moreover, some schools also use random dog sniffs to check for drugs and occasionally carry out random metal detector checks.

Although at the moment, it is unsure precisely how the grant will be spent, it is estimated that more details will be released to the public in due course.
