Proposed Tax Increase Lacks Majority School Board Support

The Cameron County School District Board of Directors dealt with a number of budget-related issues during an explosive meeting held on Thursday night.
A proposed tax increase did not pass, lacking one vote to receive a five-member majority. Members Marilyn Erickson, Robert Lininger, Shannon Penfield and Sandra Shields voted against the increase, while members Janet Hampton and Annetta Horning, Vice President Kristine Umble and President Paul Abriatis voted for the increase. Member David McManigle was absent from the meeting.
