WOOLLY BEAR CATERPILLAR

Pyrrharctica isabella

The Woolly Bear is the larval stage of the Isabella Tiger Moth. It became North America’s most recognizable caterpillar in the 1950s when Dr. C. H. Curran of the American Museum of Natural History tested the age-old tale that the caterpillar could predict the coming winter.

He determined that the caterpillar’s accuracy was 80%.
