Wandering Aimlessly

Hooded Warblers

They are strikingly gorgeous, hyperactive, energetic, and add great pleasure to my woods walks as I peer through my binoculars trying to identify them.  These brightly colored, active birds comprise the family called warblers and are generally smaller than sparrows.

Hooded Warblers are small migratory songbirds that breed across the eastern United States and southernmost portions of Canada.  We have about three dozen wood warblers in our area that belong to the family Paralidue; they are all insect eaters.  The majority of warblers have some yellow, and one of the beauties in this category is the hooded warbler.
