The Cameron County High School Red Raider varsity football team began the 2017 season last Friday night but fell to the Curwensville Golden Tide 38-8 in an Allegheny Mountain League crossover game played in Emporium.
Leading 12-0 at the half, the visitors used a power running game to score three straight touchdowns after the intermission and put the game away.
Curwensville, playing without record setting running back Nick Stewart, got rushing touchdowns from five different players. Quarterbacks Bryce Timko and Noah Van Gunden each scored on keepers and Matthew Carter, Blake Passarelli, Avery Francisco and Zach Holland all added touchdown runs as the Golden Tide amassed 255 yards on the ground. They also scored on a sixty-five yard pass from Timko to Van Gunden.
