Spring Cleaning and Female Fathers

When spring takes off, it takes off like a jet. Easter has come, trout stockings are in full swing, the canoe race is Saturday, horn hunting is reaching its tail end already and if you like working the earth this has been a good time to take advantage of the conditions to prep your fields and gardens. I managed to do a little of most of that so far all while passing a kidney stone that was about the size of a ten fly this week. Being the trophy hunter I am, the stone will be put proudly on display in my living room between a couple of my favorite ten- point mounts.

I did find a horn by my most effective method; tripping over it. I don’t find the huge seven-tine bull elk horns, those are for amateurs with bad eyes and numb toes.  I find the fork horns from yea
