Vacant House Fire Sunday Evening

A house on East Fifth Street Extension in the Emporium Borough was damaged in a late-night fire over the holiday weekend.

Crews were dispatched to the blaze at 12:29 a.m., in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

Emporium Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) Chief Butch Housler stated that the fire started on the rear corner on the right side of the home.

The home is currently vacant, having been sold in last year’s Judicial Sale after its previous owners declined to pay taxes on it. Housler reported that there is no electrical service currently at the house, and no fireworks were reported to have been launched in that vicinity around the time of the fire.
