2016 – The Year of the Bear

by Phil Burkhouse

The Chinese calendar says we are presently enjoying the year of the monkey, but I have reservations about that choice of animal.  I would have to say that with the hunting success Wes has been blessed with, this is definitely the year of the “Bear”, or perhaps more correctly the year of the rapidly growing “Little Bear.”

Little Bear was involved with Junior High football and only got to hunt the last week of archery season.  I figured the last week of archery season would be the best week to hunt, but now that I look back in the season I believe the rut was early and had peaked by mid-November.  As I wrote in an earlier article, Wes got a down county doe during the senior/junior antlerless deer season with firearms on October 20th.
