Wandering Aimlessly

Aliyah’s Hunt of a Lifetime

by Phil Burkhouse

On Saturday, May 6th, the Cameron County Long Beards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey federation held their 10th Annual Hunting Heritage Banquet.  There are a myriad of fundraising banquets organized by focus groups to support a variety of different wildlife species.  In our area we have deer, grouse, trout, pheasant, elk, and turkey banquets, but I especially enjoy the turkey banquets because of the emphasis the local chapter puts on youth involvement in the sport of turkey hunting.

This year’s banquet had 112 attendees, and 32 of these were youth hunters.  Many of these young adults volunteered to help with the banquet’s setup and also performed various tasks at the banquet.  The local chapter picks up the dinner tab for all the youth attending the banquet, and every youth attending wins a prize plus three lucky youth attendees won guns at this year’s event.
