Wandering Aimlessly

A Nine Turkey Morning

by Phil Burkhouse

Turkey season in Pennsylvania occurs twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, and they are about as different as night and day.  Spring is the turkey breeding season.  Gobblers are vocal and are supposed to succumb to the pleading calls of a lovesick hen.  It is a very exciting hunt since hearing a booming gobble close to your position and watching a black ghost of the forest strut into range is about as good as it gets.
