40 Youngsters Brave The Cold To Attend Ice Fishing Event

Today we’re writing about a fantastic event that has allowed some of our younger generation to access a sport that they probably never thought they would be able.

The Bucktail Rod and Gun Club and Cameron County Outdoor Youth Activities (CCOYA) recently co-sponsored a youth ice fishing program at Bucktail Lake. Apparently, Over 40 young people braved the cold weather and were introduced to the fun sport of ice fishing. Smiles were seen on every person’s face that turned up.

It’s great to hear that there are initiatives put in place to promote a fantastic hobby to the younger generation, as we all know that ice fishing is a great winter pastime (you just have to make sure you have the right ice fishing gear though) and a very family-friendly activity. You get to see fantastic sights, sit with your friends and spend valuable time together.

Another positive is that there were several volunteers who shared their ice fishing expertise and equipment, from letting the youngsters sit in their dedicated tent for ice fishing, to trying different rods and reels to see how different setups react differently, to showing them how to tie different knots similar to a ‘Grinner’ or ‘Palomar’.

It’s a pleasure to hear the event went down so well and we look forward to hearing about the next event, as we will definitely attend to get some personal thoughts from those taking part. We would also like to think that some of the youngsters are even considering getting their own gear to really take on the hobby!
