DO IT YOURSELF RACK – Nelson Haas is well known for his artistic skills and knowledge of the outdoors, but he may have outdone himself with his latest effort — a handmade elk antler. “It took me longer to make than it does an elk to grow one,” said Haas. The antler is made of white pine, some 20 individual pieces. Next came laminating the pieces together and carving the base and points. Nelson finished off the piece by staining and applying a final coat of poly. The work is on display at the Artisan Center at the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce in Emporium.                                           Kempher – Echo
