Annual Agricultural Producers’ Meeting

The Cameron County Conservation District hosted their 15th Annual Agricultural Producers’ Meeting on February 28th at the Cameron County Recreation Center.

Originally, the workshop began as a cooperative effort started by the District’s late Manager, Jan Hampton, along with the Farm Service Agency’s Dave Stratton and the Natural Resource Conservation Service’s (NRCS), LouAnn Swope, both have recently retired.  The goal of the original workshop was to educate farmers on agency programs including technical and financial assistance and inform them on regulations for their operations.

Those are still the workshop’s goals 15 years later.  Assistant District Manager, Kate Morgan said, “Each year we offer a session on agency updates for programs available, and any regulatory updates that pertain to the farming community, and now we are in our fourth year of offering pesticide credits, which has grown the workshop tremendously.”
