David Lyon, former catcher for the Cameron County High School Red Raiders and Kent State University, returned to Emporium Monday, after having spent a week at the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. He is the first player from Cameron County to play in a World Series. The community welcomed David home at the Little League Complex, where he grew up playing baseball. A brief ceremony was held at 6 p.m. at home plate on the senior little league field. On hand were many of Lyon’s teammates and coaches to see him presented a certificate from the Cameron County Commissioners designating Monday as David Lyon Day. Lyon threw out the first pitch for a Senior Little League All-Star game Monday night. He returns to Ohio to Kent State University for a banquet planned in honor of the team. Following the banquet, his professional career begins with the Texas Rangers. Shown with David are Commissioners Jim Thomas (left) and Phil Jones (right).
