Anniversary of a Disaster

It is June 2016, which marks the tenth anniversary of the Norfolk Southern train wreck between Gardeau and Keating Summit. This is part one of a two or three part series on the environmentally tragic incident that garnered national news.

The event occurred at the end of the month on June 30th, 2006. A train had been re-routed due to flooding in the East. The operator, who was later determined to be under the influence, had his train running over seventy miles per hour as it headed for the steepest rail slope east of the Mississippi.
