Area Commissioners To Gather For Tax Equity

Commissioners from several counties are heading to Harrisburg next week to push for increases in revenue that would bring millions of dollars into rural counties with large holdings of state-owned land.

Commissioners Phil Jones (Cameron County), Paul Heimel (Potter County) and Pete Smeltz (Clinton County) will face legislators next week as efforts ramp up to bring equity to revenues received on state-held lands, which receive a small payment per acre when compared to that which comes in through local taxation.
