Area Job Numbers

Unemployment is up across the Commonwealth according to the July releases from the Pennsylvania Center for Workforce Information and Analysis.

While the unemployment rate increased slightly to 5.6%, the statewide job count also increased over the same period to 5,893,400. Total non-farm jobs were up 20,000, with increases in nine of the 11 supersectors identified by the center. Manufacturing still employs nearly 600,000 people across the state, though fellow goods-producing industry Mining and Logging was one of only two areas that shrunk. Jobs have been showing over-the-year growth for the past six years.
