Board members discussed the possibility of allowing local business and industry to officially sponsor home football games during Thursday night’s meeting of the Cameron County School District’s Board of Directors.
Board Secretary Carl Mitchell stated that the idea was posed during a recent meeting of the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce. The sponsoring company would provide t-shirts, trinkets and other items that would be given away to spectators, plus promote the games in an effort to bring in more people while advertising their business’s services.
The board was very receptive to the idea, with members stating that the program could be expanded to include basketball games, wrestling matches, and other sporting events, if it is successful. Caution will be taken to ensure that the businesses sponsoring games are family-friendly and do not promote items that are prohibited for sale to minors.
