The first public meeting of a group aimed to collect data from residents for the betterment of the community was held last week.

The Cameron County Project, launched by accountant Jessica Herzing, was introduced to community members on Monday night, with more than 30 people in attendance.

Herzing is a Cameron County native who left the area three days after her high school graduation with no plans to ever return. She moved several times, to communities near the cities of Harrisburg and Pittsburgh and points in between.

“In all of those moves, I realized it’s not like being here,” said Herzing, who returned in 2011.
