Commissioners Give Update On Reopening 3rd St. Playground

Cameron County Commissioners offered an update on the process of reopening the Third Street Playground following a partial building collapse that closed the popular Emporium Borough park.

“We will have to wait until Russ Braun (building inspector) meets with the property owner to make sure the building is safe and secure. We can’t reopen the playground until we are all sure it’s safe for the kids,” said Commissioner Lori Reed.

The eastern wall of a building owned by Emporium-area residents Ed and Gail Lakes that at one time or another housed a feed store, Northern Tier operations and an automobile workshop, collapsed approximately three weeks ago onto the playground’s basketball courts.
