A new opportunity to introduce area youth to the sport of golf has been launched at the Emporium Country Club (ECC) and will kick-off this Thursday evening.

Beginning Thursday, May 18, children ages eight and up will be welcomed to ECC beginning at 5:30 p.m. to give golf a try. Parents and grandparents are invited to bring children to the club, where they can golf up to nine holes for the price of a cart rental.

“They didn’t use to encourage kids to come down there because of safety issues, but we want to start getting kids interested in golf,” said ECC board member Mary Jo Kahnell. “This is just something we’re putting together to help the kids learn without the huge financial commitment”. If the golfing event is a success, the club might consider joining a golf franchise.

If you can’t bring your kids down to the Country Club, whether it being too far away or being busy on that particular day, but your children are still showing an interest in golf, there are many ways youngsters can get a feel for the sport. Whether that be by taking them down to a golf course that will allow children or setting up a mini-course in your backyard, these are sure to encourage a passion for the sport. There is even the possibility of purchasing an at home virtual golfing simulator to get a feel of the sport and all that is involved. Whatever you decide on, don’t let your children’s passion for the sport die out; golf needs more recognition, and with that, the next generation of players needs to emerge!
