The school bell that previously stood in front of the Woodland Elementary School will likely be back in its place of honor before the end of this school year.

District Superintendent Dr. Keith Wolfe stated that the housing for the bell broke several years ago. Apparently, the housing was cast using an old process wherein the bell was allowed to cool rapidly after casting. This weakens the metal, and newer processes have been developed to allow the iron to cool more slowly.

Wolfe’s father, Dale Wolfe, has been a welder for his entire career, beginning his own company in 1968 in Lower Burrell, and offered to complete the work at no charge to the district.
