From the Bleachers

The first weekend of college football produced mixed results for Pennsylvania schools, as Penn State proved it has yet to recover from the sanctions of the Jerry Sandusky fiasco and Pitt was less than stellar in picking up a win over championship sub division Youngstown State. On the positive side, Slippery Rock won at New Haven and Clarion, with Cameron County’s Andrew Fragale starting at nose tackle, handled Lock Haven easily.

The Nittany Lions are without a doubt still suffering from several years of lack of scholarships but losing to Temple on Saturday was a new low for the program, which had not lost to the Owls since 1941. Temple is not the pushover it used to be, but come on. James Franklin is about to start feeling the pressure of the post Paterno era, especially since his predecessor, Bill O’Brien, seems to have done a lot more with a lot less resources.
