From the Bleachers

Opening day. There are probably no two words that bring me more joy and this year is no exception. Even in the years when the Pirates were mired in twenty-one years of losing baseball, the thrill and anticipation were still there. As of Sunday there are now six months of pure bliss where nearly every day I get to watch Pittsburgh Pirate baseball. And with any luck we will have a lengthy Buctober.

Two Raider baseball games are in the books and although I love watching the local high school almost as much as the Pirates, it has been a rough start. Coach Jamer Cooney was worried about his lack of pitching experience, but despite the scores in the first week, two freshmen pitchers really impressed against DuBois Catholic. Marcus Brown and Ty Bauer both pitched extremely well against a good team and deserved much better that their final statistics, which were skewed by what has to be called pretty awful defense.
