From the Bleachers

with Rich Summers

This is the time of year when I watch a lot of basketball. Between high school and college I literally watch hundreds of games and one thing finally struck me at the Lady Raider game Friday night. To win consistently a team has to have good shooters who are able to knock down open shots.
The Lady Raiders played as good of a first half as they had this year and I mentioned as much to JV Coach Jarek Holjencin. He put it very simply; they made their shots. Holjencin pointed out that they were getting open for the same shots they had all year; Friday they simply made a higher percentage.
Is it really that simple? In a word, yes. Teams that make their free throws, layups and a high percentage of open jump shots win.
