From the Bleachers

I had an interesting conversation with CCHS Athletic Director Dave Sullivan this week concerning the District 9 basketball playoffs and he convinced me of his position on the Red Raiders’ and Lady Red Raiders’ entrance in the tournament. Currently the Cameron County School District has a policy of requiring a team to have a .500 winning percentage to enter the playoff, but Sullivan would like it modified to the teams having a .500 record against Class A teams to enter. He has a very good case as both basketball teams would only be facing Class A teams in the playoffs.

In light of the PIAA realignment to six classes instead of four this makes all kind of sense. Both the Raiders and Lady Raiders play sixteen North Tier League games. For the boys that means they have twelve games against Class A opponents, as both Coudersport and Smethport have been moved to Class AA by the realignment. And of the Raiders’ non-league games only one, DuBois Central Catholic, is against a Class A opponent.
