I have to admit to being a closet FA Cup soccer fan as I have been viewing the games on Fox Sports 1. The game times on the weekends are generally early mornings when there is a lack of programming to go with my morning coffee; and despite my lack of knowledge of the English leagues, the stadiums, fans and commentators make the games compelling. My favorite announcer’s statement from this week points out why British English is much more interesting than American English. After a questionable call by one of the referees the announcer called it a “soft decision.” That is decidedly better than an American announcer saying an official was terrible and blew the call.
