ESPN had an interesting piece in their “Outside the Lines” program concerning the sideline behavior of college basketball coaches this season. I agree with the premise by former player and current analyst Jay Bilas that coaches at the college level have become more and more outlandish in their antics and have become ridiculous in their attempts to gain a competitive advantage by either intimidating or ingratiating officials. Former Georgetown Coach John Thompson tried to advance his theory that things were just as bad in the past but has been exacerbated by cell phone cameras, twitter and other social media technology, but Thompson has always been good at throwing up his brand of smoke screen and I have never put any credence in his opinions.
