The prevailing opinion, at least in this area and among my acquaintances, is that soccer is a foreign sport to Americans and, worse than that, extremely boring to watch. There was a time when I shared that view, but even a really old dog can learn new tricks.

My interest in the game began four years ago while vacationing in Ocean City, Maryland. The FIFA World Cup tournament in 2010 coincided with our family trip that year.
