I first need to correct a mistake in last week’s issue concerning CCHS junior Trae Smith. Those few of you who read this column regularly other than my mother know that during the basketball season I made several errors in reporting Smith’s outstanding contributions to the Red Raider basketball team including cheating him out of a free throw while I was working the scorer’s table. Well, I blew it again.
My headline last week claimed that Smith won his second District 9 Class AA javelin title when in fact he finished second last year. Smith did indeed advance to the state meet in 2014 as well as 2015 but this season was his first district title. Since he is only a junior he will probably make me a prophet by winning next year, but I guess I’ll get no credit for reporting the future correctly. Thanks to CCHS track coach Shawn Bidwell for pointing out the error of my ways.
