Historical Society Kicks Off Spring Season

Cameron County Historical Society kicks off its spring season by hosting author Dr. Paul Kahan. He will present his latest book, The Presidency of Ulysses S. Grant: Preserving the Civil War’s Legacy at the VFW Saturday, April 28 at 2 p.m.

Coming from the Philadelphia area, Dr. Kahan is a well-known and respected authority on the history of; American corrections, American diplomacy; cultural history, education and history of Pennsylvania, and will present a history of the politics of Reconstruction in a changing America.

Until recently, scholars have portrayed Grant as among the country’s worst chief executives. Though the scholarly consensus about Grant’s presidency is changing, the general public knows little, if anything, about his two terms, other than their outsized reputation for corruption.
