Board Secretary Carl Mitchell read a portion of an email received from Cameron County Commissioner Jim Thomas concerning tax assessment of properties and the judicial sale during last week’s meeting of the Cameron County School District Board of Directors.

According to Thomas, properties sold at judicial sale do not have their assessed values changed based only on the sale, although those sold through the repository do see a presumably significant decrease in value following reassessment. Tax reductions are coming through appeal hearings after a decision made by the judge.
