After a long delay featuring wild weather the Cameron County High School Lady Red Raider varsity softball team began their 2018 season last week with three home contests. CCHS won their opener against Port Allegany on Tuesday and dropped a second league game to Smethport on Thursday before rebounding to outclass Brockway in a non-league affair on Friday.

On Tuesday Lady Red Raiders junior pitcher Laila Smith hit a two-run homer and pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead Cameron County past Port Allegany, 6-3.

Smith smashed a two-run home run in the fifth inning and wiggled out of a bases loaded no out situation without allowing a run in the Lady Gators’ final at bat. She was aided by a fine running catch by right fielder Lilly Bailey to shut down the visitors.
