‘Memories With My Pop at West Ward School’

Dear Kent,

I am Charlie Cessna’s granddaughter and have written before about the pie Lena, my godmother made at the Cabin Kitchen.

I spent a lot of time at West Ward School with my grandfather and sometimes my grandmother came along.

As I got old enough to help, I emptied waste baskets and also cleaned blackboards; remember the days we used blackboards?  I also took erasers outside to clap them clean.  Sometimes from the upstairs fire escape and if downstairs, out the front door.  Pop would sweep the floors, and do that sort of thing but he always allowed me to help.  As I got older I was even allowed to sweep.  In summer recess it was different.  Oiling floors, desks, bookcases, washing windows, etc.
