Penn State Extension Offices To Be Next State Budget Casualty

Employees of Penn State Extension offices across the state could be out of jobs on July 1 if funding is not received from the state to support operations, according to Penn State officials.

Jobs in all 67 counties are at risk, with as many as 1,100 people expected to be out of work.

While economic impacts are expected from the loss of jobs alone, the citizens of Pennsylvania will suffer even further if extension offices shutter, according to university president Eric Barron, who offered remarks to Penn State’s Board of Trustees at the end of February. Barron also testified in front of house and senate appropriations committees in early March.
