Potter County Jail Closure Just Rumors, For Now

Potter County officials reiterate that the rumored closing of the Potter County Jail is just rumor, at least for the time being.
Smart Justice initiatives aimed at reducing jail populations and recidivism sparked a conversation about the possibility of shuttering the Potter County Jail and creating a multi-county partnership with McKean County to provide inmate housing services, according to Potter County Commissioner Doug Morley.
In mid-2015, Potter County officials were contacted by McKean County Commissioners to discuss a possible cost-savings move that would see inmates from Potter, McKean, Cameron and surrounding counties housed in the McKean County facility.
