Rail Trail Upkeep Discussed at Commissioners Meeting

Cameron County Commissioners discussed the West Creek Rail Trail during their regular meeting held Thursday.

Commissioners are looking into ways to assist organizers of the West Creek Rail Trail, which connects Emporium to St. Marys via a 19-mile section of old railway, keep the trail looking as good as the day it was constructed.

The conversation arose from a comment on the trail’s condition rendered by a visitor to the meeting. Marilyn Erickson, a member of the Cameron County School Board of Directors, lamented a build-up of debris and a number of broken railing sections along the trail, which led to a conversation on how best the community could pitch in to help.

Community Development Director Cliff Clark, who also serves as administrator for the rail trail, was also present at the meeting.
